WGx doesn’t understand why you can still buy excellent strawberries on the street corner at Pine & Cottle and further east at Bird & Pine, but the produce at Safeway isn’t apparently so tasty.

Of course, private produce sales are nothing new in WG, the fruit just changes with the season. If you’re kicking yourself for missing fresh cherries last summer, keep your eyes open for tree-fresh persimmons this month. A few local sales always seem to crop-up, and this year is no exception.

You can just stop by and grab some on the honor system … Bags are provided, and you’re asked to put payment in house mail slot to the left of the front door. These are the hachiya persimmons, the ones that turn very soft when ripe and taste great in baked goods, on toast, yogurt, cereal, etc. Enjoy!
