Strong winds and torrential rains on Friday caused significant damage across WG during the big storm, with most damage caused by fallen trees. Minor flooding, downed tree branches, and blown-over fences were common along major and minor streets all around San Jose and the Bay Area.
Here’s an unverified recap of damage reported in Willow Glen by various sources and eye-witness accounts:
- Significant swathes of WG were without power during the storm, including some part of the neighborhood that were out for more than 12 hours. Some areas experienced multiple, prolonged outages. Most localized power failures were the result of fallen trees, including transformer arcing on Minnesota and Ross.
- You name a street … a tree probably fell on it. Large trees fell across streets or near houses on Minnesota Avenue, Lincoln Avenue, Lansford, and Delmas.
- An unoccupied minivan was reportedly crushed near the corner of Byerly and Coastland.
- Minor exterior damage to houses was reported on Lincoln, Roycott, Cherry, and Frobisher. Fences were blown-down in multiple locations, including along Bird Avenue.
- Fire fighters were observed helping someone on the bridge at Coe & Lincoln, but there is confirmation that this was related to other rescues of homeless people along the Guadalupe River.
